Explore the strategies used by predators to gain success and survival. Learn about the ways animals avoid predators and protect themselves.
The Colors of Nature
Explore how color advertises and protects, why the sky is blue, the plants are green and why animals eyes shine at night. Discover why the colors of flowers help insure their survival. (March-Oct)
Houses, Homes & Habitats
Investigate the ways animals meet their needs for survival in an ever crowded world. Students will learn about carrying capacity and limiting factors. They will examine options for habitat improvement. (year round)
Natural Recycling
What do earthworms, cockroaches, vulture and ‘possums have in common?
They are part of nature’s recycling crew. Investigate the critical role of
bacteria, fungi and others in returning nutrients to the food chain.
Incredible Insects
Students will investigate the world of insects, how they are classified,
their unique adaptations, and roles in nature. Students will catch and
identify insects of the prairie. (Spring, summer, fall)
Tricks of the Trade
Students will examine the adaptations of plants and animals to
their roles in nature and the places they live. They will discover
why some plants are prickly and some animals are venomous, and lots more.
(Year round)
The Web of Life
Study the relationships that living things share in an ecosystem.
Explore how simple food chains are interconnected to create stability
and balance.
The Rainforest Connection
Students will study the important connection between the rainforest
ecosystem and us. They will explore how rainforests affect climate
and weather, and provide food, medicine and other valuable resources.
They will see how plants and animals are adapted to the rainforest
environment.
