Prairie Park
Nature Center
Located on the east side of town, Prairie Park features prairie, woodland and wetlands blended together in a 72 acre preserve.
Built in 1999, the nature center’s education building and programs are funded by city sales tax funds.
The nature center continues to add new interactive displays to the exhibit hall and in 2003 opened its eagle display.
Prairie Park Nature Center offers a selection of nature programs to the public, schools and local groups on a wide
variety of environmental topics.
The education building has a display hall with a wide variety of live Kansas animals, including birds of prey, and
dioramas.
Walking trails are excellent for bird watching and wildlife viewing. Five-acre Mary’s Lake provides opportunities for young and old to enjoy fishing. Also, an outdoor, wheelchair accessable interpretive trail leading down to the lake opened in the fall of 2001.
