REUNION CONCERT; CITY BAND TO HIGHLIGHT BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
LAWRENCE –A special concert will help celebrate Lawrence’s 153rd Birthday, 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the William Kelly Bandstand, located in historic South Park, 1131 Massachusetts St.

The celebration will kick off with a reunion performance at 3:30 p.m. by Paul Gray and the Gaslight Gang. The Lawrence City Band will then take the stage at 4:30 p.m. with a special birthday concert featuring soloists from both Free State High School and Lawrence High School bands.

The city band, conducted by Robert Foster, will perform several numbers including: the Star Spangled Banner, the commissioned piece by David and Gunda Heibert for Lawrence’s Sesquicentennial Celebration in 2004 - Jubilation Overture, Dances with Wolves, Dixieland Jamboree, Stars and Stripes Forever, the Lawrence Sesquicentennial March – composed by Foster and several others.

The concert is sponsored by the City of Lawrence with assistance from the Rice Foundation.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will not be rescheduled.
