Wednesday, Novmber 28, 20072008 WINTER/SPRING ACTIVITIES GUIDE TO BE RELEASED
LAWRENCE- Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces the release of the 2008 Winter/Spring Activities Guide listing class offerings and activities to be held throughout the winter and spring months.
The 2008 Winter/Spring Activities Guide will be distributed through the Sunday, Dec. 2, edition of the Lawrence Journal-World, as well as at any Parks and Recreation Department facility including the: Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr.; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St.; Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center, 1250 902 Rd. South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St. and the Administrative Office, 947 New Hampshire St., Suite 200B.

Citizens have several options for registering for classes including online, faxing, mailing or visiting a department facility. Online enrollment will begin Sunday, Dec. 2, at www.lprd.org. Parks and Recreation facilities will begin taking winter/spring registrations beginning Monday, Dec. 3.
The department has developed over 450 programs and activities in which citizens may participate ranging from swim lessons to ballroom dancing for adults.
The activities guide cover features Harriette Perkins of Lawrence, attending the department’s Fitness Fun class. A feature story, Making Choices: Fun and Family – Keys to Keeping Kids Healthy and Happy provides information on keep children fit. There is also an article on how senior adults should continue to stay active and what choices they should make before starting a fitness program.
All program registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Certain classes and programs have minimum and maximum enrollment. Registration is required before the first class. Waiting lists will be formed when programs are filled and every attempt will be made to accommodate people on waiting lists.
Discounts are available for adults over 60 years of age, and the department also has a scholarship program for youth programs and activities through the Wee Folks Scholarship Fund. Scholarship applications are available at all recreation centers and online on the department’s Web site.
