Friday, May 23, 2008LAWRENCE CITY BAND CONCERT SERIES TO BEGIN
LAWRENCE- The Lawrence City Band will kickoff its summer concert series at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at historic South Park's William Kelly Bandstand with the season opener.
Sponsored by Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department and the Rice Foundation, the city band will present a concert at 8 p.m. every Wednesday night through July 16 at South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St.
Concerts are free and open to the public.
The following is the summer concert schedule:
May 28 - Season Opener
June 4 - Classics for a Summer Night
June 11 - Lawrence City Band Showcase
June 18 - A Chautauqua Concert - Lawrence in the 1930s
with guest conductor Col. Arnald D. Gabriel, U.S. Air Force, retired
and trombone soloist Michael Davidson
June 25 - Annual Children's Concert
July 2 - A Star-Spangled Spectacular
July 9 - From Kansas City to New York to Vienna and Russia
July 16 - Season Finale
Including the 1812 Overture and Stars and Stripes Forever
The band is conducted by Robert E. Foster.
