Tuesday, May 22, 2007FOURTH ANNUAL YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP GOLF CLASSIC PLANNED
LAWRENCE – University of Kansas Men’s Basketball Coach Bill Self, along with Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department, are once again hosting a golf classic to benefit the Parks and Recreation Department’s Wee Folks Scholarship Fund.
The golf classic is scheduled for Friday, June 15, at Eagle Bend Golf Course, 1250 E. 902 Rd.
The Bill Self/Lawrence Parks and Recreation Youth Scholarship Golf Classic is set up as a four-person scramble and will be flighted with awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each flight. Cost to participate is $125 per individual or $500 per 4-player team.
Cost includes: green fee, golf cart rental, lunch, gift bag, drinks and awards. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with free range balls provided prior to lunch. Lunch will be served at noon. The golf classic will kick off with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner and awards will be held at 5:30 p.m. Meals are being provided by Salty Iguana, of Lawrence.
Lawrence Parks and Recreation annually awards over $15,000 in scholarships to children for participation in its programs through the Wee Folks Scholarship Fund.
“No child is ever turned away for the inability to pay,” Ernie Shaw, interim director of Lawrence Parks and Recreation, said. “Youth today face all kinds of pressure and the Parks and Recreation team is committed to providing fun and educational activities that are also life enhancing.
“We truly appreciate Coach Self’s continued commitment in support of the youth of Lawrence, the Wee Folks Scholarship fund and the golf classic.”
