Friday, June 29, 2007INDOOR AQUATIC CENTER TO HOST LARGE SWIM MEET
LAWRENCE - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department's Aquatic Division will host the Wave the Wheat Meet, formerly the Roger Hill/Lawrence Aquahawk Swim Meet Thursday-Sunday, July 5-8, at the Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr.
The meet is expected to bring more than 750 swimmers and approximately 1,700 spectators to Lawrence. It is the largest youth competitive swim meet in the Missouri Valley swimming region.
The competition will affect the availability of the Indoor Aquatic Center's lap and leisure pools. Both areas will remain open during regularly scheduled times Thursday, July 5, with lap swimming available 5:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. The lap pool will be closed from 1 p.m. Thursday though Sunday, July 8. The leisure pool will be closed July 6-8.
However, the Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St., will be available for public swimming 1 to 8:45 p.m. daily. Public lap swimming is also available 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday-Friday and a special Saturday session has been scheduled on July 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
