Friday, February 13, 2009ENROLLMENT IN SPRING BREAK CAMP PROGRAMMING ON-GOING
LAWRENCE –Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department offers opportunities for fun this spring break.
The Aquatics Division is offering Spring-Board Diving Camp 8 to 11 a.m., Monday through Thursday, March 16-19, at the Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr. Children, ages 8 years old and older, will learn the fundamentals and techniques of diving, as well as safety skills. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted. Cost is $65, which includes daily snacks and a camp t-shirt. For additional information, contact Jai Hoyer, aquatic programmer, (785) 832-7946.
Wildlife Camp is offered by the Nature Division from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, March 16-20, at Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St. Children, ages 7 to 12 years old, will enjoy a fun-filled week of holding snakes, making friends with a tortoise, playing games, hiking and having fun. The Recreation Instruction Division is offering Creepy, Crawly, Ecology 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St. Participants, ages 6 to 12 years old, will use microscopes to investigate animals and plants, create tie-dye designs using nature’s colors and play the roll of a naturalist tracking animals in the wild. They will also learn about the different species of birds and what each one does in its’ own environment. Insects will be studied through the creation bug models. Cost is $127 for the week long camp. The Recreation Instruction Division is offering Secret Agent Lab 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, at South Park recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts. Children, ages 6 to 12 years old, will learn about forensic science fingerprint analyses, chromatography, dental impressions and more. Spring Break Camp is offered by the Special Events Division from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Holcom Park, 2700 W. 27th St., and Edgewood Park adjacent to East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St. Children, ages 5 to 12 years old, will be involved in a structured program, which involves field trips, special events, swimming, arts and crafts, movies and games. Cost is $60 except for additional fees that may apply with field trips. Deadline to register is Friday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m. For additional information, contact Duane Peterson, special events supervisor, (785) 832-7949.
Integrated Spring Break Camp is offered by the Special Populations Division from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St. The camp is fully integrated for those with and without disabilities. Children, ages 5 to 12 years old, will enjoy a week-long camp doing activities, going on field trips, making new friends and having lots of fun. Parents are encouraged to send attendants for children who need additional assistance. Cost is $60. Deadline to register is Monday, March 9. Spring Break Fun is offered by the Special Populations Division from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St. Young adults, 13 years old and older, will enjoy an exciting week with field trips, games, activities and fun times with friends. Parents are encouraged to send attendants for those who need additional assistance. Cost is $60. Deadline to register is Monday, March 9.
