CITY TO CONTINUE PLANTINGS FOR MASTER STREET TREE PLAN
LAWRENCE – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department continues its work with the City’s Master Street Tree Program, which was adopted as an ordinance by the Lawrence City Commission in 2002.

The ordinance requires the city to contract tree plantings for every 40 feet of new street frontage. There are a wide variety of species planted, which helps prevent uniform disease within a species of tree planted. Funding for the Master Street Tree Program is financed through building permits that homebuilders pay prior to the construction of new homes.

Planting for the current time period will begin Monday, Dec. 15, and continue through March 2009.

Arbor Master Tree and Landscape, Shawnee Kan., will plant the trees. Work hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

New homeowners that are affected will be notified by Parks and Recreation regarding the planting of trees in the right-of-way area in front of homes. Homeowners are requested to care for the tree and are provided information as to the care and maintenance of all trees.

For additional information, please contact Crystal Miles, horticulture manager, at 832-7970.
