Thursday, August 7, 2008REGISTRATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR YOUTH HOOPSTER BASKETBALL LEAGUE
LAWRENCE – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Sports Division is now accepting team registrations for its Hoopster Basketball League. Team registrations are being accepted through Wednesday, Sept. 17.
The Hoopster League is open to both boys and girls 2nd through 7th grades. The team entry league is designed at a more competitive level.
The Hoopster 2nd/3rd grade league will be an evaluation/draft league. Those who wish to coach may protect no more than three players prior to the evaluation draft. Any individual to be protected must be registered prior to the deadline. The evaluation dates for the 2nd and 3rd grade participants will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, and Thursday, Oct. 9, Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.
The Hoopster 4th through 7th grade leagues are by team entry and are limited to the first 8 teams. Those submitting an individual registration are not guaranteed team placement. Individual entries will be forwarded on to all coaches for consideration.
The cost is $800 per team, $100 per individual entry. A maximum of 14 league games will be scheduled. Practices will begin the week of Oct. 20 with games beginning the week of Nov. 3 running no later than March 12. Teams are responsible for providing their own basketballs and uniforms.
To register, individuals may enroll online at www.lprd.org or visit a Lawrence Parks and Recreation facility, including: the Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr.; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St.; the Administrative Offices, 947 New Hampshire St. or South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St.
Scholarship applications are available at Holcom Park Recreation Center. The deadline to apply for scholarships is Wednesday, Sept. 10.
