Monday, August 11, 2008FACILITIES TO CLOSE TEMPORARILY FOR MAINTENANCE
LAWRENCE – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces the temporary closing of Prairie Park Nature Center, East Lawrence Recreation Center and Holcom Park Recreation Center for maintenance.
Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be closed Aug. 17-26, including general visitation, registration and enrollment, programs and activities. Maintenance being conducted includes: general cleaning, ventilation of the building, painting and reorganizing displays for public viewing. The center will reopen to the public on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 9 a.m.
The gymnasium at East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St., will be closed to the public Aug. 25-26, for refinishing. Activities like free play, walking and other gym activities will not be available. During the time of shut down, the rest of the facility will be open for public use and programs. Registration will also be available for fall classes. The gym will reopen Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 7 a.m. for public use.
The gymnasium at Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St., will be closed to the public from Aug. 25-29 for removal a ventilation duct. During the time of shut down, the rest of the facility will be open for public use and registration will be available for fall classes. The gym will reopen on Saturday, Aug. 30, for public use including walking, free play and other gym activities.
The entire facility will then close from Sept 1-5 for annual general maintenance and repairs. All recreational areas including the locker rooms, gymnasium, meeting rooms and weight room will not be available for use. The gymnasium floor will be refinished and general cleaning and painting of the facility will also take place. It will reopen Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m. for public use.
The department has another gymnasium at the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., the public can utilize while the gymnasiums at East Lawrence Recreation Center and Holcom Park Recreation Center are shut down.
