Wednesday, April 16, 2008SPECIAL POPULATIONS CLASS TO PRESENT ADAPTATION OF “HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL”
LAWRENCE – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Special Populations Division invites the community to attend a free performance of “High School Musical” by its Acting 101 class 7 p.m. Monday, April 21, at South Junior High School, 2734 Louisiana St.
The production is an adaptation of the Emmy Award-winning made-for-television film. “High School Musical” is the Disney Channel’s most successful original movie, and its soundtrack was the best-selling album in the United States in 2006.
The Acting 101 class was created to assist individuals with disabilities to become better self-advocates, practice public speaking and become comfortable appearing in front of a crowd. Past Acting 101 performances include “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Wizard of Oz” and “Footloose.”
The “High School Musical” cast rehearsed every Monday for 10 weeks. Cast members are: from Lawrence: Lisa Barcus, Kenny Beard, Yvette Bell, Connie Benander, Cole Browne, Joe Eichenberger, Jon Estill, Melissa Franklin, Rachel Gauthier, Patty Hadl, Renae Johnson, Larissa Laird, Jennifer McCue, Lucas McCue, Hilary Metzger, Owen Phariss, Hal Schultz, Allison Seeman, Alan Tarpy, Jessie Warkins, Heather Whitson, Tom Woodman and Michelle Youngquist; Ashely Kilgore, McLouth and Ashley Harkrader, Tonganoxie. Many of the performers have appeared in other Acting 101 productions.
