SUMMER/FALL ENROLLMENT TO BEGIN ONLINE SUNDAY
LAWRENCE – The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces the release of its Summer/Fall 2008 Activities Guide and the upcoming kickoff for summer activities and programs enrollment.

The 2008 Summer/Fall Activities Guide will be distributed through the Sunday, April 13, edition of the Lawrence Journal-World, as well as at any Parks and Recreation Department facility, including the: Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St.; Eagle Bend Golf Course and Learning Center, 1250 902 Road, or South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St.

A copy can be viewed online at www.lprd.org.

This is the first time the department has listed both its summer and fall activities and programs together. Previously, a fall activities guide was produced and released in August. This year, summer and fall activities are listed together and there will not be another guide released until the 2009 Winter/Spring Activities Guide is released in December.

Citizens have several options for registering for classes including online, faxing, mailing or visiting a neighborhood recreation center, the nature center or the Indoor Aquatic Center. Online enrollment will begin Sunday, April 13, at www.lprd.org. Parks and Recreation facilities will begin taking summer/fall enrollments registrations on Monday, April 14. Individuals will be able to enroll in both the summer and fall sessions of activities.

The department has developed over 450 programs and activities for each season in which citizens may participate. Programs and activities range from summer camp programs to fitness classes.

All program registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Certain classes and programs have minimum or maximum enrollment. Registration is required before the first class meets. Waiting lists will be formed when programs are filled. Every attempt will be made to accommodate people on waiting lists.

Discounts are available for adults over 60 years of age, and the department also has a scholarship program for those needing assistance with payment with youth programs and activities through the Wee Folks Scholarship Fund. Scholarship applications are available at all recreation centers and online at www.lprd.org. No one meeting scholarship criteria will be denied participation in any department program.

For addition information regarding Park and Recreation activities, contact the department at 785-832-7930 or log on to the department’s website at www.lprd.org.
