Wednesday, April 23, 2008STUDENTS, CLUB MEMBERS TO ASSIST WITH BEAUTIFYING PARKS
LAWRENCE – Lawrence Free State High School students and members of the Lawrence Rotary Clubs will assist Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Landscaping Division perform park maintenance at several locations across the city.
Thirty volunteers from Free State’s junior class will join horticulture crews from 8:45 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St.; Centennial Park, 600 Rockledge Rd. and Watson Park, 6th and Kentucky Sts. Students will do grounds maintenance, including pruning shrubs, raking out old winter foliage and working in landscape beds, and may assist with planting flowers in conjunction with Arbor Day, National Youth Service Day and the school’s Great Green Help Day.
Lawrence Rotary Clubs will also share a work day with city staff from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 3, to plant trees and flowers at the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum, 5100 W. 27th St. Citizens are also invited to assist, if interested.
