Forestry Division
The Forestry Division is responsible for the maintenance
and care of all street trees located on the city right-of-way. This
includes pruning, removing, stump-cutting and responding to public
concerns of dangerous/hazardous trees in the city right-of-way.
The division also assists park districts
and golf course staff in the management of the forestry resources in the
parks and golf course.
Wood Debris Drop-Off
It also operates the department's wood debris drop-off site, located at 1420 E. 11th St. It is open on Saturdays ONLY through November 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cost is $3 per truckload. No leaves are accepted at this site.
Woodchip Sale
The division also manages the the department's woodchip sales throughout the year. The wood chip sale is to eliminate excess woodchips generated by the department throughout the year. The department doesn't purchase woodchips, instead it recycles trees that are cut down throughout the city. The trees are then ran through a chipper and used as mulch.
The sale takes place at the Forestry Division offices, located at 1420 E. 11th St. Cost of woodchips is $5 per pickup load (the price will be more for larger trucks). Patrons are asked to bring a tarp for their pickup to secure the woodchips, preventing them from littering the roadway as they drive from the facility.
The next woodchip sale will be held:
October 4-6
Thursday, Oct. 4 - 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 5 - 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 6 - 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Woodchip Sale will take place rain or shine.
