Aquatic Classes

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department offers a number of aquatic classes and training classes, including: fitness, lifegaurd training and learn-to-swim programs at all of its facility locations in Lawrence.

Water aerobic exercises allow you to get the same benefit as a regular aerobic workout, but water aerobic workouts are more enhanced. The biggest benefit is water aerobics allow you exercise every muscle and joint in the body at the same time. As you workout, the water cools off your body for a refreshing workout.

You do not need to know how to swim in order to take advantage of water aerobic exercises. Water aerobics are generally performed in water that is no deeper than chest level. As with any exercise program, we encourage you to consult your healthcare professional or physician before you start any exercise program.

For those wanting lifegaurd training, Lawrence Parks and Recreation offers American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. The purpose of American Red Cross Lifeguard Training courses are to teach Lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activites prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries.

The Learn-to-Swim program is offered throughout the year to individuals from infant to adult at various levels. (click here for description of courses) Classes are taught by certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors.
